Here's one of Charleston's best bakeries
Good morning, Charleston! The Summer Olympic Games in Paris officially starts this evening with the opening ceremonies, and the ageless LeBron James will lead out the American athletes. I’ll be watching for no other reason than the one and only new sport this time is breakdancing. 🕺
Breaking (as the Olympics refers to the event) athletes are referred to as B-Girls and B-Boys. Brilliant. 🤣

Little Peanut Bake Shop Needs To Be Your Next Visit
I’m a sweets fanatic. I know it, and my family does. I posted last Sunday about driving 22 miles one-way to visit a terrific local donut shop.
But that’s just one type of sweet in a long list of possibilities. If you're looking for a whole host of delicious pastries, you need to get over to Little Peanut Bake Shop, located in Pierpont Crossing off Route 61 in West Ashley.
What makes Little Peanut special?
It’s the essence of what an excellent locally-owned business is about. An intense commitment to quality, and amazing offerings in an appealing environment.
The Head Baker and owner of Little Peanut is DaVee Keesee. She’s paid her dues in the baking world, big-time.
While in culinary school at Johnson & Wales in Charlotte, DaVee interned at The Sanctuary on Kiawah. Upon graduation, she moved to Charleston and gained a ton of experience at places like Miller’s All Day—she was part of the opening staff—and at Wild Olive on Johns Island.
She had the entrepreneurial bug, though, so she started Little Peanut out of a shared kitchen in November of 2020.
I met her at a Brown Fox Coffee pop-up a few years back. It was almost a religious experience when I tried the mixed-berry pop tart. 😋
DaVee opened her very own bricks-and-mortar bakery last December.
Little Peanut Bake Shop offers cookies, scones, muffins, THOSE pop-tarts, and will design a custom cake for you. They’re open Wednesday through Friday, from 7:00 until 2:00, and Saturday from 8:00 until 2:00.

STAT OF THE WEEK
🎂 6,700. According to a report by Sundale Research, the U.S. has close to 6,700 independent retail bakeries. That sounds like a lot, but it’s a far cry from the heyday of the independent era, when it seemed like every neighborhood had its own corner bakery a short drive, if not walk, away. |
WHERE ARE WE?
Each week, watch this space for a random snap from somewhere in Charleston. Where are we? Only true locals will know. DM your guess on Instagram, and the first 3 that are correct will get a shout-out at the top of our issue next week!
Maybe a tad easy this week? 👇🏼

$30 Million For A Pool?!
Future pool amenity at project called Summers Corner
Seems like we’ve been talking about inflation for a while. But this is getting ridiculous!
OK, now that I have your attention, this won’t be just any pool. It’s the Club at Summers Corner.
Summers Corner is a huge community in Summerville that national builder Lennar has been developing since 2018. At total build-out, it’ll consist of 7,000 homes. 1,500 have been built to date.
Which is why Lennar is going all-in on this aquatic amenity. The Club at Summers Corner will have 2 acres of water with four swimming areas, restaurants, water slides and an adults-only bar with TVs.
It’ll be finished and ready for cannonballs and jackknifes by late next summer.

☕ New cafe opens near King Street downtown . Tinto Cafe & Provisions opened in the space formerly occupied by Macaroon Boutique.
🍹Frozen daiquiri bar to open at corner of King and Ann. The space formerly occupied by Basil Thai—it’s been vacant since the pandemic—will be the new home for Zach’s Daiqs.
🏠 RentCafe names Charleston the best city in US for renters. If I had time, I’d dig into the methodology. ‘Cause I think most CHS renters would challenge this ranking on the cost metric alone.
